The Group Review is the premier field event of Queensland Group. It is a weekend of friendly competition between Queensland Squadrons, demonstrating their skill at Drill, and Education.
Written by Lt. Comr. Oakley, Officer Commanding Sunshine Coast
Over the weekend of 8th to 10th September 2017, four members of the squadron attended the Gliding Camp at Elliot Field just south of Bundaberg.
Cadets Logan Gray and Mannix Perrin, and Associate Members Drew Gray and Matt Perrin, joined Officers and Cadets from the Bundaberg and Hervey Bay Squadrons at the annual camp.
All members who attended had the opportunity to go up for a flight in a glider, and the Cadets undertook the theory for their Air Activities Gliding and Soaring Class 3 badge.
The camp was also a fantastic opportunity for the members to meet and mix with members of other squadrons, and all quickly made new friends with their northern counterparts.
In addition to long talks around (and roasting marshmallows over) the camp fire, the members mixed with each other during camp meals which included bacon and egg rolls for breakfast and hamburgers for dinner.
The camp overall was a fun and educational experience and all had a great time.
Thanks go to both Drew Gray and Matt Perrin for their assistance on the camp, particularly with the barbecue and pitching the tents.
Special thanks go to Squadron Captain Di Ballard and Second Officer Annette Goodwin from Bundaberg Squadron for their time and efforts in organizing the camp, and to First Officer Glenda Lange for teaching the theory.
